I voted "Yes". If this doesn't pass there will be dramatically fewer Uber

drivers covering smaller geographic areas. There will be no more uber drivers doing this in their spare time to supplement income or picking their own schedules. Uber will have to manage their "fleet" to meet demand. It will really convert Uber into the software for either a separate taxi company that employs the drivers or into a Taxi company itself. Prices for consumers will rise a lot as well.

The history of this is a bit more complex than what you describe. A court case (Dynamex) interpreted the Califronia case law in a way that said Gig work fail a four pronged test to be independent contractors.

AB5 clarified this court ruling and carved out exceptions to it. it did not carve out gig workers.

Prop 22 amends the constitution to exempt gig workers as well. Would have been better if it was broarder and overturned the four part test.

Actually I voted Yes twice ;) I am usually an automatic no on any propositon as I don't believe in direct democracy. But I make exceptions.
