Where the courts get involved are situations where a lower court order has

Extended the deadline or otherwise altered the rules established by a state legislature as to which ballots are valid and can be counted. As far as I can tell, every single state allows mailed in ballots to be counted as long as they're received by the 3rd.

Where there could be trouble is if ballots received after Election Day are only being counted by the grace of a court order. That, or if an order was issued to keep a polling location open longer. That's where there's risk.

My guess is that this court will strike down any lower court order that supersedes rules established by a State Legislature. Local party officials should be getting the word out accordingly.
