Another piece about the interesting exit poll data


If the polls are to be believed (and one has to wonder why they should be, in light of how wrong the pre-election polling was), while gaining significantly in nonwhite votes, Trump lost ground with seniors and especially with white men. The biggest drop was among white men with college educations.

Populism may not be going anywhere and as the Matt Taibbi piece I posted yesterday argues, may bring about a realignment of the parties. Imagine a future with low-education low-income voters (of all races/ethnicities) on one side, educated and more affluent voters on the other. I'm not sure that would be an improvement.

Of course the GOP may give up on Trump-style populism. But given the demographic trends, why would it? It may be the party's only hope.
