Trials for treason are rare and rarer still for politicians................


and the Aaron Burr treason trial remains the gold standard, so to speak.

The article below contends that Chief Justice Marshall ruled in the case that Burr had not been present when an "over act" (of treason) had occurred. As a result Burr was acquitted.

I would say that Trump has committed several potential overt acts contrary to national interests but do they warrant charges of treason?

Treason is defined in Article III, Section III of the Constitution: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
