“Regulations and new laws” to combat misinformation. Saying tech and media have not been able to do it themselves.

And I get that they are saying “bipartisan” but doubt they mean that Senator Hawley or Rudy should be on it (and I would want neither anywhere near something like this). Seems like almost exactly what they are calling for is a group of the right people making a determination about how to incentivize or require tech and media to say the right things and not the wrong things.

And I am not sayings this we should not be thinking deeply about this even at the government level. The effects of social media on our community and society in particular seem to still be massive and not well understood long-term. However at the same time I am extremely extremely wary of government investigations, regulations, laws or even really incentives around political speech. It’s a very dangerous gambit that would seem most likely to harm those who have the least voice otherwise.
