You are relentless!...
I'll say it this way. I start with the (well-supported) premise that all politicians are liars, and they are prone to lying about everything at all times. So, to me, the idea of expelling a politician for lying, regardless of reason, content, etc., just makes no sense.
In this particular case, you won't even get me to agree that there was an insurrection, in any meaningful sense, to begin with, much less that Hawley or anyone else played a role in trying to incite an insurrection. So, the question as to whether he lied about the constitution is of third-order importance to this debate and, therefore, not really important to me.
What disturbs me the most about this entire episode is that it seems to me that many are now claiming authority to 1) decide for everyone else what is and is not true and 2) ban speech that states the latter, according to them, of course. This is an extremely dangerous mindset. This is how countries go down.
There is no doubt in my mind that many, many -- probably most -- things stated as fact by the left are lies, but I'm in no way trying to abridge their freedom to say what they want, nor am I trying to purge them from elected office (or any other position in society). I'm stunned by the number of so-called Americans now crawling out of the woodwork who hold a different opinion about one of our most sacred rights.
