A terrorist organization. It’s a philosophy, not an organization. There are organizations that claim to adhere to and be inspired by Antifa, and if they commit acts of violence in any sort of coordinated way, label them terrorist organizations. Take the woman in Brooklyn last year who threw a Molotov Cocktail into a vehicle filled with cops. Nobody got hurt fortunately, but if she belongs to some group (I think I heard that), label that group a terrorist organization.

Just like you can label the Proud Boys a terrorist organization (but misogyny is a bad philosophy, not a terrorist organization).

Antifa is based on a flawed history of the fascist movement which says fascism thrived because of apathy and failure to resist it in kind. That’s patently false, even without getting into who gets to determine what qualifies as fascism.

So nobody should feel any need to defend Antifa. It is a thing, and it does inspire bad actors. But you do have to identify the specific actors, and their terrorist actions.

The problem I have (and this is not directed at you personally) is that rather than criticizing the dimwit coup participants outright, there’s always this whaddabout in very general terms about Antifa. It’s bullshit. Antifa sucks in its own ways, no question, but it isn’t a “group”, and nobody associated with it tried to forcefully install a cult hero by invading the US Capitol.

But hey, from where I’m sitting, you want to label an organization behind months of violence in Portland a terrorist group, I’m cool with that.
