I heard a pundit speaking about the GOP's solid chances to retake the house
One key (and benign) premise was historical gains for the minority party in mid-terms, certainly valid. Other than that It was based upon controlling more state houses to overcome the will of the people:
- Greater sophistication and focus in red states on redistricting / gerrymandering (there's no shame left in the party to govern this)
- Red states having a net gain of seats that provides greater gerrymandering opportunities
- Voter suppression (see point about shame above)
Nowhere did they mention any data that more people prefer the GOP's positions...because that data doesn't exist. Its all about minority rule for the GOP. Trump's ham-fisted meddling may counteract all the anti-democratic moves though. Stacey Abrams styles movements to fight this bullshit will also be important as you state, I see leadership in Houston starting to organize against the Texas bill that targets successful ways they expanded the electorate in 2020.
