As a stressor on the healthcare system - which is (at least until recently) supposedly the public health priority here - obesity is AT LEAST as big of a challenge as Covid. If my obesity (and that of hundreds of millions of others) drives cost up to the point that you can’t afford healthcare (or get an appointment, or anything else) despite only eating out of the fresh food section at the grocery store, that absolutely DOES affect your health.

Not only that, but as I pointed out just in the context of the pandemic, my being obese also puts me at greater risk for hospitalization, ICU and death from Covid … meaning a bed may not be available for you if you need it because my fat ass is already in it.

To twist the knife even more as far as public policy goes, corn subsidies are at least as significant of a contributor to this issue as anything else. Not to mention the way that sugared, processed, fatty and otherwise unhealthy foods somehow not being treated the same as other products that kill you like cigarettes, alcohol, (guns!), etc.
