I agree with almost all of these. The one point I would quibble with is

"need a growing population." Yes, I understand how we've set up our systems to support the elderly. Though it won't happen, I would prefer we rethink the way we approach funding such systems (and other aspects of the economy) so that there is not a built-in incentive for endless population growth to support spending. That would require a lot of hard conversations that our lily-livered politicians don't have the cojones to initiate.

A system that depends on endless growth is going to run into trouble eventually -- either from faltering growth or the cumulative side-effects of growth achieved. Eventually, we'll find it doesn't scale well.
