Looking at that video though, the reason that guy is dead is the homeowner went into his house to get his gun to confront an angry but unarmed man. If I understand the sordid tale correctly, the homeowner was banging the unarmed man’s wife, and I guess their kid was in the shooter’s house? So witnessed this whole thing? Yikes! Obviously, tensions run high over such things.

So, just from a common sense standpoint (I understand the law likely gives a homeowner wide lattitude), nobody was in danger of dying until the shooter comes out brandishing a firearm. There were so many other ways to go here. Including just dialing 911. It’s one thing if the estranged husband was presenting a mortal threat to the homeowner, making time of the essence. That just didn’t seem to be the case here.

If I am right about the way the law will come down for the homeowner (who seemed in no great hurry to seek medical attention for the guy he just shot), all I can say is I wish our states had laws that value human life a little more.
