Yes, I hope it’s all a game of chicken and everybody will decide to swerve

Before hitting each other head on. If the west cuts Russia out of the SWIFT payment system, and Russia cuts off gas in the cold to Turkey and much of Europe, who blinks first? The party who can no longer make wire transfers or even access debt markets, or the one freezing to death?

Russia is a one trick pony, so if they could be made to believe that their customers can weather a discontinuation of Russian gas, that would leave Russia with no non-military levers to pull, I think. I hope that’s the goal, or as close to it as possible.
