The problem is that western air defense is not cheap or readily available.

My understanding is that most of the NASAMS systems are still being manufactured and the US/Spain are giving a bunch of older HAWK systems that were in stock.

Patriot would probably be the next step but those systems are expensive, limited in number, and it would be bad if it fell into the wrong hands.
