It is either used to support the South or the KKK. I don't think I need to elaborate on why a KKK flag would be troubling.

But flying a flag in support of the South is still troubling. The South tried to secede from the rest of the United States, primarily over states' rights to have slavery. Sotuherners have tried to spin this as a states rights issue, but it came down to slavery. If the south was okay abolishing slavery, there wouldn't have been a civil war.

So the South not only wanted to remove itself from what we consider the best country in the world, but they were also fighting for slavery.

So to see 150 years later people still proudly displaying the flag and what it stood for is a little baffling. Our country is better together, and the world is better without slavery. So, why would one proudly display a confederate flag. There are plenty of ways to state that you are a proud southerner. This is the way to do it that is the most baffling.

I don't like bringing up Nazi Germany, but you don't see many Germans proudly flying Nazi flags. It's an embarrassing part of their history they don't think of fondly (obviously there are some exceptions). It is their history, though, and it shouldn't be forgotten. But there's a difference between remembering it, and proudly honoring it. Again, I'm not saying the two are the equivalent, but slavery is a stain on this country, and secession isn't a great thing either.

And yes, I agree it's people's first amendment right to be an a-hole, but there's a reason the Westboro Baptist Church is despised. A lot of people interpret flying the confederate flag proudly in the same light as marching for the Westboro Baptist Church.
