Nickle and diming small expenditures while adding $54 billion in military?

I can listen to arguments about government reducing spending to non-core areas if the person is serious about reducing government spending. But any budget that increases military spending by $54 billion is not serious about reducing government spending. If that's the case, then I don't buy arguments that this spending should be reduced. I realize it's non-core, but I would argue that Americans get more marginal value out of the hundreds of millions of dollars on this versus the marginal spending on the final hundreds of millions of dollars of military spending.
