Really? It doesn't make sense on the surface to me.

Firing Comey is not going to get Trump off the hook. Seems more like it would be related to Comey's 'loose cannon' history, Trump couldn't rely on his loyalty, something about leaks, something political like that. Which of course could have a connection to the Russia thing still, if just from an 'image' standpoint. The timing makes sense because the Deputy AG just filed his recommendation on Comey, and he was Comey's supervisor. Comey looking bad in the recent hearing provides slight cover (not really) too.

That makes a whole lot more sense to me though- it's a political firing that says nothing about the FBI getting close on proving collusion, or an effort to squash an investigation, because removing Comey wouldn't solve Trump's problem. Everyone else investigating is still there and there is an extensive file built up.

It's all assumptions, but which make more sense?
