Wealthy communities with high property taxes have well financed schools. Poor rural and city areas have crumbling schools.

I don't claim to know how to fix the public schools, and I am a big believer in them. I have often said that if you airlift the entire student body of top performing schools into one of those I am calling crumbling, it would overnight be a top performer. Because suddenly most of the student body comes from families that emphasize education. So I don't even think the question of how to finance public education can be looked at as a stand alone concern. Problems coming from poorer districts aren't just about the money available directly to the schools. It really starts in the home IMO.

So I have no idea how to fix the public schools; I just want to think twice before borrowing from their business model for use in our system of higher education.
