"Scott Stadium was the gift of Frederic William Scott and Elisabeth Strother Scott, and was dedicated to the memory of his parents, Frederic Robert Scott and Frances Branch Scott."

There is a small plaque on the stadium (or at least there used to be) with more info. I recall an article about the naming of the stadium in the CD when I was a student (1978-85). If I recall correctly, the Harrison family wealth originated with proceeds of Col. Mosby's Greenback Raid (capture of a federal payroll train). The article discussed the Confederate connections to the stadium (and field). I could be mistaken about it being the Harrison family though. In any event, there was no controversy about all this that I can recall.

Earlier this year St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond took down all references to the Confederacy in the church, including removing the image of a Confederate flag on a plaque in honor of Major Scott.
