Doesn’t seem as if he’s gone so far to specifically recognize the Israeli
Claim that the entire unified city is the national capital. Seems as though they are deliberately saying that they are not taking a position with regard to borders that still need to be hammered out through a peace process.
The UN resolution (that the US voted to approve) from 1980 would seemingly still be in place that renders as illegal the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem. Russia recognized West Jerusalem as the Israeli capital earlier this year and maybe Trump is just matching that move. It’s hard to argue that West Jerusalem isn’t the capital. Recognition of the entire city as part of Israel would kick up quite a fuss. [Post edited by CT Wahoo at 12/06/2017 2:10PM]
