One, because it's the truth, and the truth should be a guiding principle
even in thorny problems like this. I'd argue, especially in thorny problems like this.
Two, because Israel is an ally, and insulting an ally by telling them they don't get to choose their own capital seems wrong.
Simply being a bone of contention doesn't make a reason not to. Sometimes one side or another makes a bone of contention out of something really stupid - and legitimizing really stupid bones of contention is most likely more of an obstacle to peace than a path to it. Maybe if we send the message we're through accommodating stupidity, it'll help get to the real issues quicker.
