What Hooda said. Alabama's voters on the other hand are driven by other
factors that people have touched on here, but most importantly by religion. These are people whose most important concerns are topics like abortion, gay marriage, and moving our embassy to Jerusalem because it is a sign of the end times. Anyone who doesn't toe the line of Evangelical fundamentalism is considered something of an apostate. They will even elect a predator like Roy Moore, even women will, because they buy into the patriarchy that is religious fundamentalism, not to mention the fact that some churches engage in relationship arrangements themselves between older men and young teens. They rationalize and normalize these behaviors.
Now never mind that with these as the topics Alabama Republicans are free to pursue economic and education policies that benefit the wealthy and influential. The voters have reliably voted against their interests for too long. Maybe someday they'll wake up, but rejecting your beliefs requires a lot of will. Many of those who do that end up leaving the state for obvious reasons.
