This argument takes the cake
Sorry, couldn't resist :-)
The argument is quite eloquently stated and the logic is reasonable, as long as it's applied to situations where a legitimate religious principle is at stake. Obviously, it could be quite dangerous to extend the same thinking to other areas. For example, what if another baker says he won't serve black people?
Assuming that only actions motivated by religion would enjoy a safe harbor, there is still a problem at the margins with defining what's religious and what's not. The IRS and others have struggled with that at times.
Lastly, if the baker is forced to make this cake, I for one would not want to eat a slice, lest there be a few non-standard ingredients in the mix. [Post edited by HoozOnTop at 12/08/2017 7:33PM]
