You would have to be a pretty shitty person to want to follow all the teachings of the bible, so I'm in favor of not doing that. The part that I'd like us to skip is when we clutch our pearls at the thought of Johnny Coffeecakes having to violate his religious beliefs. They are his beliefs. This ain't North Korea where you get issued your beliefs. First Amendment says you get to pick them.

He could have joined a sect of Christianity that would have been thrilled to host that wedding - he chose not to. If you choose a religion with shitty beliefs, that's on you. You're free to have whatever shitty belief (religious or otherwise) you want, but we don't owe you a pity party when people call them shitty. Take some personal responsibility for your choices instead of pointing to one of the passages in your religious text that you didn't cross out.

Rant over... should it be legal for Johnny Coffeecakes to decline baking the cake? I think so... I think the line between shitty and illegal needs to be big and bright in our country. Doing the right thing feels a lot better when it's voluntary. That being said, I went to the Virginia-Auburn game in Birmingham back in 2001 and toured the civil rights museum before the game. 'WHITES ONLY' is part of our not-too-distant history - I don't know how to respond to that objection.
