I wouldn't necessarily defend calling FOX fake news, although FOX is clearly worse, IMO only because they have such a total monopoly on the right. My best recent example would be the FOX reporting on Seth Rich, I believe on Hannity. That was a completely false accusation about a murder. That is nowhere near the ballpark of ABC getting the Flynn story wrong (Trump authorized contact with Russia during campaign instead of transition), which ABC quickly corrected, and then suspended the dude. It is not close to the recent hubbub about the CNN tweet about *gasp* Trump crowds, which was actually a personal tweet and was immediately retracted with apology (although probably about 20 people would have even paid attention to it if the Trumpie set wasn't so constantly on the lookout for gotcha moments and examples of #FAKENEWS!!!)

The bullshit behind Trump is that he has never once called out FOX for fake news. He calls out news he doesn't like as #FAKE! Every once in a blue moon, turns out he's right, and the Trumpie set has one big giant group orgasm repeating it over and over again, regardless of how fast it's retracted. But the vast majority of the time the false statements are Trump's. The dreaded MSM does not attach velcro to itself. Trump and his fansbase devote their lives to trying to stick velcro to them, and I wonder what makes you think it resonates.

It resonates with Trump. But of course he is simply trying to eliminate the INDEPENDENT media (his love for FOX shows you that he wants to squash any news orgs he doesn't think of as his own propaganda machine - he's not striving for impartiality. He's striving for elimination of independence). It resonates with the world's worst dictators, because of course they actually can kill the independent media. And it resonates with you. With Trumpies, who are complicit with Trump.

Does it really resonate beyond? The NYT and the WP are getting record subscriptions by all accounts. I don't think CNN's viewership is suffering - in fact FAKE NEWS probably helps them commercially. Controversy usually draws eyeballs. The jury is out on how much this really resonates beyond Trump's drooling fan base, and we may realize in hindsight that these incredibly unAmerican concepts designed to destroy our most important checks and balances backfired bigly.
