I don't assert the claim that abortion is tantamount to state sanctioned
murder. Which any way you look at it, capital punishment clearly is. I find it confounding that those who claim that government is incompetent and ineffective are so quick to empower its ability to kill and destroy. Launch missiles into residential areas or lock someone in a cage for the entirety of their natural life, go ahead. Try and provide healthcare or education for as many people as possible? Time to break out the tricorn hats and rant nonsensically about "liberty".
Also, I respect most political views even if I don't agree with them. However, if you bring your God into a political debate, your argument falls flat with me as it should with any elected official not preying on the credulous masses. They question should be whether legal abortion has a net positive impact on society. I would argue it does. Forcing ( lets be honest, mostly lower class women as the upper classes have always found ways to circumvent laws that inconvenience them) to have babies they don't have the ability to desire to care for properly has profoundly negative impacts on society.
Now, as to the connection with capital punishment there is one major distinction in my opinion. No woman accidentally aborted the wrong fetus due to inherent institutional biases in the justice system. How many convictions have been overturned due to newly discovered evidence or advances in DNA detection methods? How many times have eyewitness claims proved to be unreliable? Though I am unable to cite any specific case at the moment, statistics and common sense make it highly probable and almost a near certainty that an innocent person has been executed by the state. Legalized abortion is not fraught with similar undesirable possibilities.
Actually, one case does come to mind, the Central Park Five. Trump took out full page ads in major newspapers calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty specifically for the purpose of executing what turned out to be innocent children who were psychologically brow beaten into falsely confessing. Legalized abortion is not affected by such foolishness and is thus a safer practice. If one rants about the "sanctity of human life" and then advocates for state sanctioned murder of children, I find that to be an untenable position.
