This is a response to the narrative that these were all just outsiders

That's not the case with scumbags like Kessler. It's a way to address the fact that there are issues on the homefront and not sweep them away by labeling the people are as imported bigots. We all have different perspectives and feelings on how race and class relations are in Charlottesville. This is one thing I learned very quickly after speaking to minority residents and students following the riots last year.
