I thought

the Puerto Rican voters have to pass a resolution\law to want to become a state. That has never passed after decades.

Can Trump just sign an executive order giving them their independence without the vote of Puerto Rican voters? I suspect the Puerto Rican voters would have no say in that decision, but our congress may or may not need to be involved.

I also see if Puerto Rico got statehood, then the politics of DC not having representation comes into play.

I just never see congress giving Puerto Rico statehood to tell you the truth. Can and will they go independent?
