"Provide sanctuary" is absolutely not about immigration lawlessness. It is about the poem on the statue of liberty which begins with "give me your tired, your poor". It's how my family got here from eastern Europe in the late 1800s, with the exception of my grandfather on mom's side who came here as a little boy by himself around 1908 or so (always reminds me of Godfather Part II). Processed through Hoboken, NJ. He and many others from eastern Europe were given sanctuary, but there was no lawlessness. And there were borders.

And there were plenty of TommyK's raising alarms about it back then too. Or the wave before that one that came mostly from southern Europe, and the one before that which came from Ireland. In the context of American history you guys are a tired old broken record.

In the end the country ultimately ignores all the closed minded, insular, fearful offspring of prior immigration waves, which is a primary reason the US is the greatest and wealthiest country in history. Trumpism is just the latest iteration of that tired old fear driven nonsense, and with a little luck, tomorrow will be the beginning of the end of it.

Not that I'm betting on it, but I can hope. Hey, the audacity of hope, right Tommy boy?
