of the reason for that is I started, if not on third base, at least on second. Why is that? Because, as a Korean War vet my father got a college degree on the GI Bill, a key component of creating the middle class, got a good job, was able to buy an affordable house in a nice community, had me in a good public school system, was able to pay for me to go to UVA (which even out of state was a lot cheaper then) so that I didn't graduate with debt, and then got me into a job market where I was fortunate enough to work in an area of the country where the tech boom began.

Yeah I worked hard. I started with a BIG leg up, thanks in large part to policies enacted by the government before I was born. But with changes in the economy, a failing education system, and policies that distribute taxes upwards, I think that leg up is available now to far fewer people. We created the American Dream. If we're not careful, we're going to kill it.
