But it should be very easy to draw the distinction you're making. Between those who fought to dismantle the country and those who fought to create it. In the case of Jefferson, he helped create the principles that have served as the foundation for the country. He may not have lived up to those principles, like almost all of us, and I've read some very unflattering characterizations of him. But nonetheless, when we honor his image with a statue, we're honoring his part in the country's creation.
