That's an interesting point. Where do we go from here?

On the one hand, there are repubs who seem like sheep following the lead ram to slaughter, who will almost certainly support any measure Trump takes to "make sure this never happens to a president again". Read: further erode checks and balances against the exec.

On the other, the rest of us should be concerned with beefing those firewalls up. That's part of the battle I think we're fighting in 2020, and why, to me, there are more important issues on the table than Warren's tax policies.

And just to qualify my claim, I am a firm believer in the principle that countries who trade with each other almost never go to war with each other. These disruptions in trade are part of the nationalist rise that I think imperils all the global institutions that have given us, really, unprecedented peace and prosperity since 1945. We tend to think a period like 1914 - 1945 can never happen. But we are now recreating the exact conditions that led us to that period.
