I don’t think you’re right that 50% infection rate in the US was ever

considered a conservative estimate, and I don’t believe there have been any estimates since the country went into lock down just over the past 3 days. Estimates didn’t factor in the shutdown of virtually every opportunity nationwide for large gatherings.

That’s the point of the article if you were able to read it - CDC worst case estimates were 165 mil to maybe as many as 200+ mil infections, but those did not factor in the rolling responses this week, which are exactly the sort of things the CDC would recommend.
