just like pushing other foolish (IMO) ideas like ending cash bail, releasing prisoners for Covid (or basically any reason we can get away with, restoring voting rights to felons before they comply with all requirements of their charge, etc. And while l hate to trigger lefties by mentioning the boogeyman, this is the agenda Soros has been pushing at the local prosecutor level in major cities around the country to disastrous results.

While I agree with you about redefining responsibilities (or IMO more precisely re-examining and improving training) and that such moves would require more, not less funding, this is not a "branding issue". There is no doubt what is intended by "defund the Police". There is no doubt what that defunding would mean in terms of actual policing on the street. There is no doubt about what is intended by "Reduce the power of the police, and then shift the resources". And there is no doubt this is no different than their intent with "defund or abolish ICE", just using the tragedy of George Floyd, and the madness being tolerated from the rioting, burning and looting, to take their intent to a grander scale. Their is no problem with the "branding" of defund the Police to make clear what they intend and want, even if they come to realize they went too far and need to try and soft-peddle that with nonsense about not needing a "man with a gun" to show up for a missing child, car crash, mental health crisis, etc. going forward.
