I would not expect to see final form serious proposals by policy makers resembling the protest-proposals from various non-govt groups. You’re reading the most distressing (to you at least) proposals as hard policy proposals. Kind of seeking out the lowest common denominator to rail against.

Nobody serious wants to make our streets less secure. But everyone is groping for a way to avoid these brutality events in the future. Some, not directed at you necessarily, want to shape every proposal for change as A TOTAL OUTRAGE!!
