I think "cancel culture" is largely a made-up concept. It really just


means people's reputations get damaged for things they maybe didn't get damaged for 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Because, you know, people have evolved a bit. It's something I hear about almost entirely from right wing goobers who get all bent out of shape every time a white man gets fired or ridiculed on social media for doing something offensive that they don't think should be considered offensive.
