beliefs that I don't think should be terribly controversial that I've posted here (anonymously), that I wouldn't post on Facebook where I'm not anonymous (although I try to avoid talking politics on facebook generally).

For instance, I have written on this board that I think the BLM movement is focused on the wrong problem if they want to stop the killing of unarmed black men by police. The problem isn't that police are killing black men at an alarmingly high rate during arrest... the problem is they are killing people of ANY race at an alarmingly high rate during arrest. Police killings of unarmed victims by race correlates very highly with arrests by race. So imo, the solution needs to focus on deescalation, less use of force, reducing actual arrests for non-violent crimes and moving toward more on the spot citations, NOT a focus on making police officers less racist. The comeback to that might be, well it's racism that leads to a disproportionate number of black men being arrested... and racism certainly could play a role (particularly more institutionalized policies like the war on drugs which disproportionately target blacks), BUT arrests of blacks are also disproportionate to the population because crime committed by blacks is disproportionate to the population. Again, there are lots of reasons for this (obviously higher rates of poverty being a big one), but this whole discussion is one that I wouldn't feel comfortable having in a setting where (even totally outside of work... i.e. facebook) it could be taken the wrong way and brought to my employer's attention and put me in a position of having to "explain" my views.
