I kind of agree and kind of dont ... if we’re bringing back students to
Campuses all around the country, how much more unsafe is it to have a subset of them play football with no fans in the stands? If anything, making sure the athletes get tested several times per week because they’re playing football is likely to lead to better outcomes than canceling the season and not testing them, no?
I also have some reservations about what it means for the future pro prospects of many of these guys—mostly the ones who are not sure fire top 3-4 round picks. If you needed to play your way into the draft this year, you now don’t get that chance? What if, as a 22 year old, I decide that I’d rather risk getting a virus that has something like a near-zero chance of killing me as a 22 year old so that I can play and have a chance at earning an NFL paycheck instead of teaching high school gym classes for $30k? I think that’s a very reasonable risk-reward calculation...
