that's it's more about behaviors than laws, but other western nations have done much better than we have. Early a number on the right said that we were much less densely populated than e.g. Italy, much younger, had better medicine and more hospital beds so we would handle it much better. What people did not count on was a leader that was ONLY interested in keeping his poll numbers up. If he had led and messaged that it was patriotic to wear a mask we might have a death toll more like 1/2 of what we do. Think about it 200,000 people may have died because of Trump's ego, and the ego of Governors and other politicians that fed that.

That said, doing something like closing bars to indoor service is step one that probably never should have been lifted.
