I hear ya - we hear nothing about his defense, but he must have


Had an arm. That’s the thing that tips it for me. Pitching is by far the most important part of D in baseball. And Ruth was among the best during the short time he did it. Then did things with a bat nobody thought possible - and hit over .340 for his career and holds the skank single season record at .393. In a way, his iconic status overshadows some of his pure baseball accomplishments.

I’m not considering off the field issues at all. Aaron runs circles around Ruth there.
