Impeach Trump and hope time heals all wounds. It might work.

I think it fails, however, because the wounds are too deep. It's not just about Trump. The base has seen the establishment betray them too often for too long to believe that the only issue is Trump himself. The base rallied to Trump in the first place to send a message that it was tired of the bullshit status quo.

I totally agree on the next election. It's the Reps' to lose. Biden*/Harris* is the weakest new administration in history, and four years of general incompetence, economic malaise, speech suppression, illegal immigration, tax hikes, 58 genders and unpunished rioting will likely doom the Dems in 2024. Many millions more will get redpilled between now and then.

I think McConnell et al.'s best course of action would be take a laissez-faire approach to Trump while co-opting him behind the scenes to 1) retain his base and 2) give him no reason to go third-party, which would annihilate the Republican party.

I honestly don't think Trump will run again. He's seen that the establishment is literally willing to destroy the country to defeat him and, despite his own (well-deserved) self-righteousness and desire for revenge, will not want America to go through another four years of that.

He could instead be the kingmaker, enjoy nearly unlimited popularity on the right and still get his revenge by electing Pence/DeSantis/Noem/etc., (not to mention electing one or more of his kids somewhere). He could probably get a few of his RINO antagonists tossed, as well (e.g., Murkowski).

That seems to be the safer play, whereas an impeachment would blow the lid off things.
