Though completely counterproductive, I think enough Trump supporters stayed home (or voted Dem) either in protest or out of apathy, enabling the highly motivated Dems to eke out wins for their candidates. For example, I've seen polling stats that showed the R turnout in certain hard-right areas of GA was lower in the runoff election than in the general.
