I lived through both the Reagan and the G.W. Bush years and...
...never thought I'd see again the visceral hatred from the left against a Rep president like I saw with those two, but Trump-hate is in a different galaxy. He literally drove millions of people insane, at least temporarily (let's hope). There are multiple lefty posters on this board who can't even say his name, LOL.
Trust me, I get it. If he were my opponent, I would despise him. He's in-your-face, obnoxious and a braggart. But he is also hated because he was fairly successful, IMO. In contrast, Romney was once despised by the left, too, but now he's tolerable to them because he's been a failure in terms of actually advancing any right-wing positions.
I supported Trump, somewhat reluctantly, because he took the fight to the left and advanced the positions I believe in, but it has nothing to do with him personally. I'd have been just as supportive of -- if not more so -- a traditional, less polarizing candidate, as long as they fought unapologetically for the things I believe in. Hopefully, I'll have that option in 2024. Like many on your side profess, I'd also like to get back to a more sane form of national politics if at all possible.
