...write a Constitution that would limit and decentralize government power as much as possible. Men will always be corrupt and corruptible, and government will naturally attract the most corrupt in some ways.
The problem is that even the strongest foundations can be eroded over time, and our Constitutional foundation is no different. The Founders would be horrified at the amount of power that the government has today, especially the federal government. They put their fortunes and lives at risk to fight a revolution over comparably minor impositions placed on them by the Crown.
