LA’s point is Trump was willing to focus entirely on the cultural identity politics that really matter to GOP voters (kicking the Mexicans out, saying Merry Christmas and not that commie libbtard Happy Holidays, proudly being prejudiced against duh blacks instead of apologizing for it, ruthlessly cramming 12th century Catholics onto the SCOTUS, and refusing to concede when he lost like the strong alpha authoritatian they so desperately crave to save them from the coming tide of brown people out to replace them). Rather than some Country Club “you didn’t build that” platform that appeals to maybe 10% of their base and enough winks and lip service to those issues to get the low information white vote as usual.

I mean, it’s a pretty disgusting reason to like him but at least he is honest about it. And I think it generally does describe the appeal, especially the willingness to cheat, lie, call foul, and play dirty in what they all know deep down is a losing fight unless they turn the country over to a dictator and disband our democracy.
