So your big problem is with the date, not what it commemorates? It's easy


to pick a date when it's the date on a document, like July 4th. But wait... Even THAT is not that simple... The vote to create the document happened on July 2. The draft was approved on July 4, It was read in public for the first time... meaning no citizens really knew about it... until July 8. Even then, that was only Philadelphia. There was no twitter so it was months before much of the country knew about it. It was not actually signed until August 2. Which date should we celebrate? History is rarely very simple.
