They've closed around 200 or so stores since 2019 mostly due to the decline

of retail drugstore locations in competition with online in particular and grocery store expansion into the business in some cases. The Walgreens in my area are mostly depressingly low on both product and cleanliness as is Rite Aid for that matter. The local Safeway does a better job with pharmacy product and services.

San Francisco has a different problem. The stores there are being targeted by organized crime shoplifting and what employee or security guard is going to stop them when it happens? By the time cops arrive the thieves are long gone. It'll take a concerted effort by the city and the retailers to curtail this kind of activity.
