Always been more of an exercise in herding cats than getting repubs to do that. Repubs are really good at amplifying isolated cases of lunacy and making it out to be the entire party. So, things like this, or like I talk about above, new educational initiatives that even most liberal dems oppose come to be symbols of the dem party. It branded with its wacko extremes, justified or now.

I used to want to live in SF or somewhere in CA one day. Not anymore.
