Again, not to belabor the point, but…


…in business, it is possible to increase both revenue and profit by cutting prices. Not guaranteed, of course, but both possible and done all the time.

Albeit not a direct comparison, in government, you can increase revenue by cutting taxes in such a way as to increase incentives for production and increase incentives for reporting taxable income, thus increasing tax revenue. This taps into a truism about human nature, which the left somehow can’t accept (perhaps because so many of them are employed in areas not bound by the profit motive or unemployed altogether).

As a final comment, some folks are going on the assumption that increasing tax revs is a good thing. Not to me. Starving the government of tax revenue to spend is the only way to check spending (albeit an increasingly weak one with both parties throwing restraint out the window). So, while Trump’s tax cuts would be expected to increase tax revenue long term based on expanding the economic pie, that’s not necessarily a feature, although it is far better than the alternative of having both slower growth and high deficits, which is what higher marginal tax rates bring.
