I can see that, but here we're talking about two different and distinct


sets of services, provided by two different entities. The state is not responsible for funding my defense needs, just as the Feds are not responsible for funding my police and fire needs. And that Fed funding isn't changed based on where I live. (yes, simplified to ignore Fed dollars coming back to the states for shares of some State services)

Your analogy seems more akin to someone working in DC or NYC but living in VA or CT, or when my son was still a VA resident for tax purposes, but was working in NC while in school and putting demands on their state services. VA gave him credit for those taxes paid to NC because he didn't put a demand on their services by not living here.
