It’s the new normal, IMO, although it will vary by…

…locality and political party. Medically, we’ve known what this is from early last year — a flu-like respiratory virus that can be more dangerous than usual for the elderly, sick and obese. For most people, it’s nothing beyond a cold or flu. This hasn’t changed, although the danger appears to be waning over time as expected.

The political/policy side of it is unhinged from reality and has been from day one. At this point, too many people have been psychologically broken by COVID fear (as some posters note below) and there are too many vested interests in keeping it going for the nonsense to stop anytime soon. If you live in Florida or similar places, however, your life is not much affected. Not so in places like California. Again, localities matter.

Nationally, the Biden admin won’t stop the circus unless and until it becomes an overwhelmingly negative political albatross for them, and their own members decide to pull a COVID Afghanistan by declaring victory, getting out and pretending it never happened.

Beyond that, there are two things that will get us back to normal. First, COVID liability protection for businesses and other organizations (unlikely to happen, IMO). Second, voters toss out the coronabros, as Virginians did last month and as looks to be on the horizon in the midterms. (Likely to happen in purple and light blue areas, IMO.). We’re stuck at the White House level until 2025, however, and that’s important from a regulatory perspective.
